Some patients may require lab testing or imaging referrals following their appointment. Sesame providers can create and send these orders directly through the provider portal, helping patients complete their care without extra steps.
Ordering Labs
Sesame integrates with Quest Diagnostics and other national labs, allowing you to order tests directly from the patient’s chart.
How to Order a Lab:
Open the patient’s chart.
Click the test tube icon to open the Lab Ordering window.

To confirm you’ve selected the right test, click the Quest Lab Codes link in the window.
This opens in a new tab where you can search by lab name or code.
Use the search bar in the ordering window to find tests by name or code, and select each test you wish to order.

You can add multiple labs to a single order.
The window will display the total price the patient will be charged—useful if you’d like to give them a heads-up before confirming.
When finished, click Order.
A confirmation page will appear stating “Lab order sent.” Sesame will then automatically email the patient with:
A secure link to pay for the lab order, and
Instructions for scheduling or bringing the order to a local lab.
Creating an Imaging Referral
If imaging is clinically indicated:
Go to the patient’s chart or Medical Documents section.
Generate a new Medical Document for the imaging referral.
Enter the necessary details (imaging type, clinical indication, ordering provider).
Click Send to Patient — the referral will be automatically emailed and saved in the patient’s Sesame portal.
Viewing Lab Results
Only the ordering provider can view lab results in the Sesame provider portal.
If you did not place the order, the results will not appear in your account.
To view results:
Open the patient’s chart → Labs tab.
Select the relevant order to review the uploaded results.
Patient access:
Patients can upload lab results directly to their account for you to view.
If a patient misplaces results, they should contact Quest Diagnostics (or the corresponding lab) directly.
Uploading Lab Orders or Results
Providers cannot currently upload lab results directly to the portal.
If you have a lab report or document that needs to be added:
Email the file to support@sesamecare.com.
Include the patient’s Encounter ID in your message.
Our team will then coordinate with the patient to ensure it’s uploaded to their account.
