The Task List feature in the Sesame Provider Portal helps clinicians stay on top of follow-up needs for Success by Sesame (weight loss) patients—such as prescription refills and reported side effects.
Currently, the Task List is available only for tasks related to Success by Sesame subscriptions, but Sesame plans to expand this feature to other programs in the future.
How the Task List Works
Tasks appear automatically in your portal when a prescription refill is due or when a patient reports a disruptive side effect through their weekly Sesame app check-in.
Each task includes a short description of what’s needed and an action button (for example, Prescribe or Message). Some tasks also trigger SMS alerts if you have notifications enabled.
Task Types
1. Rx Needed
This task means the patient has no upcoming refills or prescription refills on file and is due for their next medication.
Provider guidance:
You can click into the task to open the patient’s chart and review their previous prescriptions, visit notes, and medication history.
From the chart, you can open Messaging if you’d like to reach out to the patient for clarification before refilling.
When ready, click the Prescribe button in the task, which takes you directly to ePrescribe for that patient.
The task auto-completes once a prescription is submitted.
This task serves as a reminder that a refill is due—it’s not an expectation to prescribe automatically. If you prefer to check in with the patient first, you’re encouraged to do so before sending the refill.
2. Disruptive Side Effects Reported
This task appears when a patient reports a disruptive or concerning side effect through their weekly Sesame app check-in.
Provider guidance:
Respond to the patient within 48 hours using the Message button in the task, which opens the provider-patient chat directly.
Follow up promptly to assess symptoms, adjust treatment if needed, or escalate care.
Once addressed, click Mark Complete to clear the task.
Note: Side effect tasks do not auto-complete—they must be manually marked complete once resolved.
Patient Weekly Check-Ins
How it works for patients:
Success by Sesame patients are prompted through the Sesame app to complete a weekly check-in.
Check-ins are optional, but patients receive a weekly app notification encouraging them to share updates about progress and side effects.
How it supports your care:
Each check-in gives you a snapshot of the patient’s progress between visits.
Even if no side effects are reported, you can view all completed check-ins in the patient’s chart under the Programs section:
The log displays:
The date of each check-in
The patient’s reported weight and BMI (if entered)
Whether any negative side effects were reported
The patient’s dosage status (whether they’ve been taking their medication as prescribed)
Be sure to click on each check-in entry to expand it—patients may include free-text notes with additional context or updates that are not visible in the summary view.
Reviewing this data before approving refills helps you make safe, efficient prescribing decisions without unnecessary follow-ups.
Provider tip: Encourage patients to:
Download the Sesame app
Complete weekly check-ins before their next refill request
These updates help you maintain visibility into each patient’s adherence and progress, ensuring you have the most relevant context for clinical decision-making.
